I have been running SharePoint on Office365 now for a few days, and when opening a document library using Explorer it is very slow to connect. The way to overcome this, is to go to Internet Explorer, Tools, Internet Options, Connections, Lan Settings, and untick “Automatically detect settings”. Now open you document libraries in Explorer, it’s really fast.
As a note, this also improves performance with on-premise SharePoint installation.
